Born in 1979, Emilie Lemay grew up on the shore of Brome Lake in the picturesque village of Knowlton, Quebec. Inspired by her childhood in the great outdoors, she creates luminous atmospheric landscapes. Her paintings illuminate natural elements between land and sky with watercolour, acrylic and oil.

Emilie pursued her passion for visual arts at Cegep du Vieux Montréal and at Concordia University, then she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours from the University of Manitoba. Art history influences her practice of contemporary art that honours traditions of representational painting.

Emilie was a school program facilitator at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, a director of education and exhibits at the Manitoba Children’s Museum and the recipient of a Manitoba Arts Council residency in New Brunswick’s Sunbury shores Art and Nature Centre. After completing a curator training of Canada Council for the Arts at the Franco-Manitoban Cultural Centre, Emilie is now a visual arts mentor at Saint-Boniface University.

Since winning first place in The Brush Off! 2016, Emilie presented a solo art exhibition in Winnipeg, in Riding Mountain National Park and in Knowlton. Her artwork can be found in public and private collections throughout Canada, including the CANIF Collection of Cegep du Vieux Montreal. She is a member of Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art, La Maison des Artistes Visuels Francophones and The Cloud Appreciation Society.

She lives and finds inspiration under the extraordinary Manitoba sky.
